Paani Puri launches in SOBO Mumbai

After months of anticipation – on 22nd April 2010 – the Paani Puri family saw the first collection of Paani Puri Clothing being launched at SOBO Mall in Tardeo.

 

We would like to thank actor Imran Khan and his fiancé Avantika for taking the time to come and attend the launch !  Despite his busy schedule Imran showed Paani Puri much love and support ! 

We’d also like to thank Shagun Shah and Kinjal Parikh of SOBO – that’s them with Rish and Imran.  (From L to R : Rish, Kinjal, Shagun, Imran)

It’s A Bolly Spicey Puri !

On 4th January 2010, Paani Puri Clothing was featured  in the very trendy BollySpice.com after a series of Twitter exchanges with Editor-in Chief Stacey Yount.

My Dazed Puri Discovery

So here’s how it all started a few weeks ago … all on Facebook ! I kept seeing the words ‘pani puri’ and it got me craving to eat some Bombay style chaats !

Translation of ‘paani puri paane ke liey kuch khona padtha hai ..’ To get a ‘pani puri’ then you must give up something (precious / meaningful) to you

I’ve known Sabrina a.k.a. Sabu for a long time and I’ve always associated her and Pani Puri with good memories and crazy cravings !

It came down to a point that I kept seeing Rish’s tweets and FB status updates about Paani Puri and I really did begin to get concerned that maybe he was just obsessing on the food so much .. so I did what any good friend would do .. Pin him down and find out WHY he was going on and on about it …

And that’s the secret folks ! My very good friend – Rish Oberoi – has just launched his own line of very funky out-of-the-box style urban t-shirts called ‘Paani Puri Clothing’ !

Welcome to what I’d like to call my Paani Puri Cave !

Noooo this isn’t a joke – that’s really where I work from … I live on that couch (it’s also the most comfy couch ever!) – I eat there – and many a night – I have slept there too !

That’s me quite serious at work – there are a lot of Twitter and FaceBook Fans that I have to respond to – it’s my social responsibility to spread the Paani Puri Luuuuuurve !

Whaaaaat ? You didn’t believe I was working ???? Just because I sit on a big fat cozy looking couch ?? Check out the Puri’s on the screen – that ought to remind you that all I’ve got on my mind is Paani Puri ! 

The first Paani Puri T-shirt ! I keep it hanging there on the cupboard (and it covers the TV too so there’s no distractions) so that it’s the first thing I see in the morning when I wake up.  I just want more and more Paani Puri tee’s out there for the world to enjoy !

At the end of a long and productive day – I take a few minutes to just sit back and take a breather … slouching over a laptop all day doesn’t help my back .. and I think its time for me to catch some Zzzz’s !

What's The Puri ?

“Paani Puri!? Clothing? A Clothing Company!? Really?!? That’s crazy! silly! and even goofy!

YUP! that is the same reaction we've received every single day since 5:30am on April 20,2009. 5:30am!?!

WHAT?? Yes, at 5:30am Rish Oberoi was watching Batman-The Dark Knight, but could only think to himself, "how amazing would Paani Puri be right now?“

While sitting there in a daze, hoping to somehow find Paani Puri around his house, he began to think how funny, no, how CRAZY!! it would be if “The Joker” was eating Paani Puri!!!

This thought stuck in his mind, and that very same day he went through his phone book to call anyone who could create this image … And

He found her! Wait Wait, before we go on, our designer is actually called EUREKA! (this is the most serious part of the story and not a joke….).

That’s how Paani Puri started; simply "a joke made into a reality."

Pani Puri For Dummies

Unless you’re an Indian from India or a person of Indian origin OR just a foodie at heart -here’s a bit of a filler for you

Pani Puri (pronounced ‘pah-ni poo-ree’) or Golgappa ('pronounced ‘goal-gup-pa) is a popular street snack for most Indians.  It’s basically a  round, hollow "puri", fried crisp and filled with a watery mixture of tamarind, chili, chaat masala, potato, onion and chickpeas.  It is bite size and enough to pop in the mouth (unless you have a REALLY small mouth!).

The term golgappa refers to the fact that crisp sphere ("gol") is placed in the mouth and eaten ("gappa") at one time, without biting. Pani comes from the Hindi word for water and puri (or poori), an Indian bread made by frying dough in oil.

At this point you must be wondering what’s with the description about Pani Puris ?

I’ve got some serious Pani Puri cravings at this point and can’t wait to get my hands on some right now ! it’s 00:30 and that’s right – I want a Pani Puri NOW !!!
